My South Cebu Experience 2019

I have been traveling for years now, but never been in a place where I have to fly. But the start of the year for me was a blast and I was so blessed, as I had my first experience in an airplane, and my first travel outside Luzon. My workmate and I went to Cebu, and our first target was the South Cebu. Since she's a Cebuana, it lightened our travel because she has the knowledge about the place, and that, I only relied on her throughout my stay in Cebu. Haha. :D

In this blog, I will share some attractions in South Cebu, with our DIY itinerary and some expenses.

We arrived at Mactan-Cebu International Airport at 1AM. From the airport, we took a regular taxi going to South Bus Terminal. Fare is Php250. We ate first at the terminal canteen before we took a bus going to Oslob. Fare is Php400. Our travel started at 2AM, and we arrived at our destination at 6AM.

Oslob, Cebu
Oslob is a small town in South Cebu, and a very popular place for its remarkable whale shark watching.
We booked a room at MB's Sunrise View Resort, which costs Php1200 per night. They offer affordable rooms, cottages, and Oslob tour package, including whale shark watching, island hopping, snorkeling, and canyoneering. We didn't get a tour package, but we paid Php500 per head for whale shark watching. This includes a snorkeling gear. Also, since our check in time is 2PM, we also paid Php50 for a locker so we can keep our things safely for the meantime while we are on the beach.

The local government of Oslob sets orientations before tourists can proceed to the whale shark watching. This is to keep an eco-friendly business, and to avoid being jailed for a long time, or penalized for a certain fee. The orientation discusses strict compliance rules, such as:
-Avoid using sunblock,
-Camera flash must be turned off,
-Keep distance from the whale sharks, and
-Avoid touching the whale sharks.

Unfortunately, I have no photos with whale sharks. :D
They are on my vlog. Click HERE to watch. :)

Whale shark watching is limited to 30 minutes only. So after that, we went back to the resort at 9AM for breakfast.

After eating, we explored the resort's infinity pool before we went to our next destination - the Sumilon Island.

Sumilon Island
The Sumilon Island is notable for its sandbar, white sand and blue water. Most of the island is owned by Bluewater Beach Resort, and the public area of the island can be reached by renting a boat which costs Php1500. It will take you only 15-20 minutes from Oslob to the island.
While in the resort, we met a couple who plans to go there. To lower the expenses, we offered them to join us, and they agreed, so our fee was divided by four. Hehe.

A brief orientation is also being held here before going to Sumilon Island. We arrived at 10AM, and stayed at the island until 1PM.

When the room was finally available for check in, we took a bath, fixed our things, and slept for some hours. At 5PM, we went to the town proper of Oslob for more site seeing, and dinner. Travel takes only 30 minutes from the resort, and fare is Php20.

The following are some sites we visited at the town proper of Oslob (with no entrance fee.) ;)

The Immaculate Conception Church

The Cuartel "Ruins"

Museo Oslob

Baluarte

I really love the seaside in Baluarte. As a huge fan of beaches (tho I have no idea if you can swim here), for me, it's a perfect place to chill, hangout with friends, and to do munimuni (reflect). Hehe. The place is so clean and peaceful. I could stay here until it gets dark.

At 6PM we had our dinner in the street, and it was a bomb! One of my favorite experiences here in Cebu indeed. It's not the usual street food we see daily that offers fishball, kwek-kwek, and isaw. But here, they have much to offer like they can grill fresh squid, fish, chorizo, even chicken right in front of you. Together with puso (hanging rice), solve na solve ka na. We spent not more than Php400 for the two of us, sobra pa.
We went back to the resort around 8PM to have our proper rest.

Kawasan Falls
On our second day in South Cebu, we went to Kawasan Falls, located in Badian, Cebu. It is a 2-ride, 2-hr travel time from the resort we checked in. Kawasan Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in the Philippines. It is well known for its enchanting turquoise blue water, and it is a perfect place for canyoneering.

We started our travel at 8AM, and we arrived at 10AM. We rode a bus from Oslob to Bato, then another bus ride from Bato to Badian. One way fare is not more than Php60, as far as I can remember.
Upon arrival, we paid Php1000 for 2 pax for a tour guide, and helmet and life vest rental, plus Php20 for the environmental fee.
We got no time for canyoneering since we have to proceed to our next destination (Metro Cebu) right upon checking out of the hotel, but we got the chance to try trekking, cliff jumping, and rope swing. Some hours also spent for swimming and photo ops.

And before we left Kawasan at 1PM, we bought this "not your ordinary super yummy chocolatey donut" (haha!) for Php20/pc, served as our brunch (breakfast+lunch, hehe) for that day. You can never see this in other places in Cebu, only here in Kawasan. So you shouldn't miss this.

We arrived at the hotel at 3PM, then we started fixing ourselves and packing up our things for our next destination, and left Oslob around 4PM.
